Mark's Summer Holiday!

 - Summer Holiday -

Hello Everyone! I hope you all had a good summer holiday, We all enjoyed ourselves during our holidays too.

During this summer holiday, I went to another part of Japan for the first time! It might sound unbelievable. but since I came to Japan I have really only stayed in Kyoto!

So after thinking about all kinds of different places I could go to, I decided on going to Hiroshima!

I went by Shinkansen (High-Speed Bullet Train) for the first time! It was sunny most of the way, but when I finally got to Hiroshima, it started to rain! :(

In Hiroshima, I went to the A-Bomb Dome, Peace Park, and Museum. It was very interesting and very sad to see everything there. I hope that kind of weapon is never used again!

Later, I also went to Miyajima. I was able to walk out to the shrine gate when the tide was low. I also was able to see a lot of deers.

I also ate Hiroshima Okonomiyaki! I really enjoyed it, I hope I will get the chance to eat it again.

Please check below this post for more photos of my trip!

I hope you all had a great summer holiday, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you all about your holidays!

- Mark

Discussion Week 18 - Friday the 18th, Sunday the 20th, and Tuesday the 22nd

 - Discussion Week 18 -

- Friday the 18th -

- The Pros and Cons of SNS

What are the pros and cons of SNS?

Do the good points outweigh the bad?

Would we be better off without SNS?

Do you think we could return to a life of limited SNS, like that of 10 years ago?

Do you think we could return to a life without SNS, like that of 20 years ago?

Let's talk about that.

- Sunday the 20th of August -

-  Transgender issues

As some of you may know, there have been a couple of transgender points brought up in the news recently.

1. https://japantoday.com/category/crime/transgender-convict-seeks-to-be-treated-as-female-inmate-in-prison

2. https://japantoday.com/category/world/military-scrambles-for-transgender-policy-after-trump-tweets

So should the burden of transgender medication, hormones etc. fall on the shoulders of others (e.g. tax)?
Should the idea that those who are interested in transitioning from one gender to the other, be an acceptable excuse for special treatment in institutions such as jail or the army?

Let's talk about that.

Tuesday the 22nd of August -

- North Korea

This week we're going to talk about our favourite neighbour: North Korea.

What's going on with North Korea? Why is Kim Jong Un so crazy about war?

Why don't they care that the entire rest of the world is against them?

North Korea regularly conducts missile tests, do you think they are effective at intimidating other countries?

Do you think that they are foolish enough to actually start a war?

Let's talk about that.

Discussion Week 17 - Tuesday the 1st, Friday the 4th, and Sunday the 6th

 - Discussion Week 17 -

 SORRY FOR THE LATE UPDATE!!

- Tuesday the 1st AND Friday the 4th of August -

- The Pros and Cons of hosting the Olympic Games

In just a couple of years, Japan will be abuzz with Olympic fever due to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

So, this week, we're going to talk about what the good points and bad points are of hosting the Olympic games.

We'll try and do a lot of opinion based discussion this week!

Let's talk about that.

- Sunday the 6th of August -

- Do LGBT pride parades/events etc. actually help?

-Disclaimer- I am not attempting to offend anyone or sound offensive to anyone with this topic, it is purely for discussion purposes.
In recent years, the idea of LGBT acceptance is a big thing all over the world. I agree that all people should accept other people regardless of their orientation, but, there are people out there that are intolerant of the idea of gay or lesbian people.
The idea to spread awareness of gay acceptance is a good one, but are events that attempt to force LGBT onto the populace really helping?
If an intolerant person has this forced in their face and told to accept it, it may just make their hate stronger, but if keeping one's orientation to themselves and being happy about it would allow people not to even care about whether you are gay or straight, would that be better?

Let's talk about that.
